Barbarians V South Africa - Wembley Stadium

My friend had been drooling over watching something sporty after a trip to Wimbledon earlier last year and nagged if we could watch Barbarians V South Africa at Wembley Stadium as he had never been to first class Rugby match or Wembley Stadium.

I have been luck to see my Football team Doncaster Rovers there (and win) but agreed to go as it is a great stadium to visit if you get the chance.

The view gets you every time you come out of the tube station and start walking down Wembley Way

Dotted around the outside of the stadium there are some statues of famous players and team.

The first one we encountered was that of the England World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore.

The second one we found was erected to celebrate 120 years of Rugby League with the statue of five legends of the game, Billy Boston MBE, Alex Murphy OBE and Martin Offiah MBE as well as the late greats Gus Risman and Eric Ashton MBE.

Once inside the concourse you could walk all way round the stadium stopping off for a bite to eat, a sneaky pint or just admire the pictures and banners of great moments in Wembley's history.

Here is a great reason for not having goal line technology lol!

Well my friend did a great job with the tickets, I can't complain about this view, nearly as good as on TV!

My friend likes to be early so the above picture was about 2 hours before kick off. Luckily a few more arrived by kick off (about 56,000)

We were treated to a brilliant game of attacking rugby from both sides that was great for the fans but probably a nightmare for the coaches.

Game on - Barbarians V South Africa

Our great seats gave us amazing views of the play and the tries.

Touch Down!

The Referee blew up for full time with score all square at 31-31.
A nice day which left us with a return trip down Wembley Way and a night time view of the Wembley Arch.
(Amazing but I still prefer the Twin Towers!)
