What are the fireworks like then? Well the short answer in the words of Craig Revel Horwood is they are ‘Amazing’.

The longer answer when they came they were in fact amazing but were they worth the 5 hours stood by the bank of the Thames waiting for them to start?

Yes they were worth it but I don’t know if I would want to do it again or if I did I would bring a picnic with me.

The tickets said to be in your allotted area between 8pm and 10:30pm but we had finished our meal earlier than planned so decided to wander down towards the Thames early as we had heard earlier in the day they were closing the Tube stations near to where we want to go from 7pm.

When we got there people were already starting to que up and shortly after 7pm they started letting people through even thought it said from 8pm on the tickets. We went in and found a place right at the front directly opposite the London Eye.
Waiting across from the London Eye
Great place, great view, no one if front of us but then what else was there to do but stand and wait.
On the PA System there were pop tunes and a DJ every now and then asking “Aw White People of Landon give us a cheer” in is Cockney accent and few hundred years away from us there was a row of portaloos if you wanted to spend a penny but that was it.
Now it's blue!
No entertainment, no food, nowhere to get a drink. I asked one of the event staff where we could get a drink or bight to eat and he said back on to the high street where there is a McDonalds and a pub!. If we did that we would have to give up our place and come back many rows back from the great vantage point we had secured so there we had to stand for 5 hours till the fireworks started.
Crowd awaiting for the Fireworks to start
To be fair the music was a good blend of old and new standards and everyone was well behaved and did not push and shove so you did not have to spend the 5 hours in a star shape to make sure nobody sneaked past and pinched your spot.
Countdown to start
So if you go my advice would be:-

Go early
Take a book or Kindle
Make a picnic

Then stand, relax and enjoy the show:-
