New Year in London 2016 - Part 2

Welcome to my latest Where's That Photo blog post

This blog is to show you the pictures of my new year's break in London and to share what I got up to, the places I visited and the sights I saw.
Trafalgar Square London

Saturday 31st Dec 2016

After yesterdays mad dash traveling from Doncaster at sunrise to Golders Green, seeing the Xmas lights, going to Lush spa, having a meal and watching Mamma Mia in the West End (Click here to catch the story and pictures) was today going to be any different? No!

Another day, another 5 million things on the agenda.

First thing was to meet my friend at Kings Cross station and head across to St Martin in The Field for a lunch time concert but as this was like 10am we had some time to spare so we took in the sights of Trafalgar Square:-

This is my favourite picture of the morning, shooting a picture of Nelson's Column with Big Ben in the distance.

This next picture is by the fountain next to the National Gallery were we decided to go to kill some more time:-
Fountain by National Gallery in Trafalgar Square

Shocking but to be honest I have never been in the National Gallery before and was amazed at the building and all the famous paintings I had presumed were somewhere else in the World or in private collections.

As I said the interior was amazing as the next example shows:-
Inside the National Gallery

As said there is all the famous paintings  in there like the Hay Wain by Constable and The Entombmemt by Michelangelo.

My favourite one was this one by Van Gogh, but not sure, are they supposed to be Dandylions? lol!

We then got to the place we were going to all along St Martin In the Field:-
St Martin In The Field - London

It was quite comical how we ended up here! My friend asked me if I had ever been to St Martin In The Field, I hadn't and thought it was just a place in the local village where he lived where upon he told me it was place in London where they played classical music (doh!).

I looked it up on the internet and got all excited about it and told him I would like to go but he informed me he was just asking if I had heard of it as he wanted to take his parents for their wedding anniversary (another doh!)

His trip with is parents fell through so then he asked me if I wanted to go so we resurrected our plans to go to see this lunchtime concert:-

I had heard snippets in the past of Peter and the Wolf but never they whole thing and did not realise it came with a story and a narrator.

Inside I was impressed with the decorations on the roof and the nice chandeliers:-

The most impressive thing in the building apart from the music was the lovely window at the back of the church that kept drawing my eyes towards it.

But I was scared if I looked too much I might disappear down the hole in the middle:-

The afternoon was a more gentle affair as we had secured tickets to the fireworks at midnight on the Thames and we are not as young as we used to be so we went back to the hotel to relax and have a snooze to build the energy to stay up past normal bed time to see the new year celebrations.

After our snooze we went for our evening meal to give us fuel to be able to stand up for hours on the banks of the Thames in the inevitable queues that would form.

The restaurant we chose was Lartista, a great Pizza place in Golders Green that serves the said pizzas the size of dustbin lids and makes the most amazing home made desserts to finish you off if you have any room after round one of your meal.

We were amused by their delightful Xmas decorations on the doors and windows:-

I know it is a bit of a tease following what I said at the end of my last blog post but definitely next blog post will have the photos of the New Year Fireworks!

See you then!

Have you been to St Martin In The Field?
Have you been to the National Gallery?
Have you had a meal at Lartista?
